About the Breville VDF105 Halo Health Fryer
This particular review is focussed on the VDF105 Halo Health Fryer. We found it to be very capable unit at an affordable price. It combines a powerful 1.2 Kw halogen heater with fan assist. This takes the elements of what the Philips and Tefal have and combines them into one unit. It has a 1.2Kg capacity which makes it suitable for a family of 4 (1Kg is the size of a typical medium sized bag of frozen chips). It also comes with a recipe book, spoon, removable rotating paddle and reversible roasting rack to cook delicate items such as fish. The unique feature about the Breville VDF105 is the hinge at the bottom which tilts the fryer when in use. This provides a kind of basting motion which is particularly helpful with things like chips. We certainly found in our chip test that the results were a very uniform colour, suggesting that this may actually work!.
How the Breville VDF105 Halo Health Fryer performed
The Chip Test
As in our other low fat fryer reviews, we first cooked a large portion of frozen chips (fries). These come pre-coated in oil and we have found in all fryers that frozen chips produce great results. We use frozen chips in our reviews to ensure consistency. However, you get almost identical results with home cut chips. After that we then cooked spring rolls, indian snacks and chicken nuggets.
In all of the tests the results were excellent. As with other low fat fryers, the chips tasted good and looked good on the outside. They were better than oven chips and tasted a bit different to deep fat fried chips but no worse – just different.
In our Breville VDF105 Halo Health Fryer Reviews we also cooked portions of fish, steak and chicken. For these tests we removed the rotating paddles as these are not required. The results were excellent in all cases.
With the Breville VDF105 Halo Health Fryer you get a simple control panel with built in digital timer. Nothing fancy but it does the job. Low fat fryers tend to have much simpler controls in comparison to Halogen Ovens which have to cater for lots of different types of cooking.
The Breville VDF105 Halo Health Fryer continues to provide excellent results and is one of the strongest low fat fryers on the market. Its simple design and controls are easy to use. It has a very powerful heater which produces fast results with consistent quality.
